How to get to K'gari Beach Resort on K'gari (Fraser Island)

Getting to K'gari Beach Resort is all part of the adventure. Located on the island's stunning east coast, the resort is only accessible by 4WD, making it a true off-road escape.

After a short vehicle ferry ride from Hervey Bay or Rainbow Beach to K'gari, you'll drive along scenic sand tracks and the famous 75 Mile Beach to reach your destination.

Drive to River Heads: Located approximately 20 minutes south of Hervey Bay, River Heads is the departure point for vehicle ferries to K'gari.

Take the SeaLink K'gari Ferry: This ferry operates from River Heads to Kingfisher Bay on K'gari. The crossing takes approximately 40-50 minutes and must be pre-booked for 4WD vehicles. For more information regarding SeaLink Ferry services, visit the SeaLink Ferry website.

Drive across the island to the east coast: From Kingfisher Bay, follow the marked inland 4WD tracks through lush rainforest and sandy terrain until you reach 75 Mile Beach on the island's eastern side. Expect around 1.5-2 hours of driving, depending on track conditions.

Head north on 75 Mile Beach to K'gari Beach Resort: Once you reach 75 Mile Beach, turn left (north) and drive along the beach until you arrive at the resort. Be sure to travel during low tide and always check local conditions and tide times before setting off.

Note that K'gari's sand tracks are rough and only suitable for high-clearance 4WD vehicles with low-range capability. Ensure your vehicle is properly equipped and prepared for the journey, as conditions can be challenging. For more information, see 4WDing on K'gari.

Drive to Inskip Point: Located approximately 14 km from Rainbow Beach, Inskip Point is the departure point for the ferry to K'gari.

Take the Mantaray Barge: This barge operates from Inskip Point to Hook Point on K'gari. The crossing takes about 10–15 minutes and runs regularly throughout the day, typically from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM. For more information regarding Mantaray Barge services, visit the Mantaray Barge website.

Drive to K'gari Beach Resort: Upon arrival at Hook Point on K'gari, you'll need to drive approximately 35 km, which can take around 1-2 hours, along the island's sand tracks to reach K'gari Beach Resort.

Drivers:

All drivers must be a minimum age of 21 years old and hold a valid driver’s licence, which must be presented for inspection when completing the contract of hire.

Itineraries:

First time 4WDing? No problem! Our team provide maps and tide times; as well as detailed itineraries to suit tidal conditions. These will maximise the use of your time, will guide you through the island's tracks and provide insightful background into the destination's top locations.

Safety Training:

Aussie Trax staff will provide all guests with a detailed safety briefing before travel. This alerts guests to potential hazards and provide key tips to ensure you can navigate the island without hassle.

Fuel:

The cars are taken out full and returned full, there is no extra charge for kilometres. Should the car require refuelling Aussie Trax will charge $3.00 per litre to refuel the vehicle at the hirers' cost.

National Park Permit:

A vehicle permit to drive on K'gari (Fraser Island) is required by Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service. This permit is normally purchased at the time of hire (from the resort reception) and is not included in the rates. Aussie Trax will charge an administration fee of $8.50 per for each National Park Permit.
