26 Jan 16: Australia Day on Fraser Island

The only thing more Australian than playing cricket at the beach, or listening to Triple J's Hottest 100, is getting together with your mates and supporting a good cause.

This year, the team at Eurong Beach Resort has decided to combine these two great Aussie traditions on the Eastern side of Fraser Island hosting an Australia Day Big Bash- style cricket carnival on the new Eurong Oval.

While the calibre of the Eurong team may not quite match that of the Brisbane Heat, David Farrelly is confident the afternoon event will provide plenty of entertainment for guests on Fraser Island.

"The competition will be open to all ages, staff and guests are all welcome to join in," he said.

A sausage sizzle and soft drinks will also be on sale, with all proceeds going to Fraser Island's emergency volunteers and first responders.

"Being located here on Fraser Island certainly has it's perks, but it also means we rely on volunteers to assist in the event of an emergency," he said.

"They do a fantastic job and help a lot of people so we are very proud to show our support."

So if you're headed to Fraser Island for an extra-long Australia Day weekend, grab your mates, bring your family and get involved or simply enjoy a snag to support a great cause this Australia Day.
