The Variety Bash started in 1985 when entrepreneur, Dick Smith, took a group of intrepid explorers from Bourke to Burketown in old cars... raising money along the way. Over the years, the bashes have become legendary raising vital funds for sick, disadvantaged and special needs children... and they're headed to Fraser.

The good folks at Four Wheel Drive Queensland have ear-marked the last weekend in May for their annual Fraser Island Clean up. This grand-scale clean ups was conceived by two mates sitting around a camp fire and embraced by the folks at Four Wheel Drive Queensland and their associated Queensland clubs.

Fraser Island’s traditional Butchulla people knew a thing or two when it came to naming some of the landmark spots on Fraser’s western beach. Awinya Creek translates to ‘whale tail’ and Wathumba Creek, slightly to the north means ‘where the whales blow’.
